Data Collection
P3P policies declare the data they collect in groups (also referred to as "statements").
This policy contains 3 data groups.
The data practices of each group will be explained separately.
Group "LibSat Splash Page Viewings"
We collect the following information:
This data will be used for the following purposes:
- Anonymous user profiling and decision-making. The user is allowed to opt-out of this usage.
This data will be used by ourselves and our agents.
The data in this group has been marked as non-identifiable. This means that there is no
reasonable way for the site to identify the individual person this data was collected from.
The following explanation is provided for why this data is collected:
Cookies are kept to determine how often LibSat Splash Pages are displayed within a user's browser. This is so that users do not have to repeatedly see the same
banner ad over and over and over and ... over again. This should help reduce the time required of individuals who clearly have skipped over the call-to-action splash page -- or who have completed an online survey -- or who have requested not to see the splash page on every visit. As indicated on the splash page, completing an online survey is optional. Seeing the Splash page on every visit is now limited in frequency either automatically (on a pre-determined schedule) or as indicated by the browser user -- based on the cookie settings -- which are the best and most anonymous way of dealing with this situation.
Group "Web Server Statistics"
We collect the following information:
- Click-stream data
- HTTP protocol elements
- User's interaction with a page or resource
- Search terms
This data will be used for the following purposes:
- Completion and support of the current activity.
- Web site and system administration.
- Research and development.
This data will be used by ourselves and our agents.
The data in this group has been marked as non-identifiable. This means that there is no
reasonable way for the site to identify the individual person this data was collected from.
The following explanation is provided for why this data is collected:
Our Web Server(s) record standard http logfile data according to the version and type of Web Server in use.
Typically we use Apache web servers and the standard log file formats that are available with that software.
The data is only used internally within our organization to track such information as the number of visitors, the sources of visitors, the pages visited, the referral sites, the search terms used to find our site and other such information as is available using such packages as webalyzer (web site log file analyzer and reporting software)
Group "Online Survey Respondents"
At the user's option, we will collect the following data:
- Online contact information
- Survey Data
This data will be used for the following purposes:
- Contacting visitors for marketing of services or products. The user must opt-in to this usage.
This data will be used by ourselves and our agents.
The following explanation is provided for why this data is collected:
We collect answers to questions of the online surveys. Users can opt-in to provide their email address, which is strictly used to contact the user for subsequent follow-up surveys.
We also request their Postal/Zip code, provided by users on an opt-in basis.
This information is used to determine their proximity to the organization that the survey is about.
The users are also capable (although they are not asked or required to do so) of providing other details in a comments section of the online surveys.
We keep all potentially personal information in tables that are separate from the survey data.
We protect the email addresses from use by anyone except ourselves, and strictly for the purposes of sending follow-up email reminders -- as was the choice of the user when they opted-in for this service, by providing their email address.
